How did Carmelo Anthony win NBA Player of the Week?

Written by: DJ Justice

Most people don’t care too much about the NBA player of the week, but this one got people talking. This week the NBA gave out the Western Conference Player of the Week award to Carmelo Anthony and this has caused issues on social media with fans.

People are getting upset because they believe it is unfair to players like James Harden who only played twice this week and averaged 47 points, or even Luka Doncic who averaged 30-9-9 as the Mavericks went 2-1.

Carmelo played all 3 games and averaged 22 points per game in the Blazers 3-0 winning streak. When you compare that to the other two players there is clearly a significant difference in performance.

To be fair to Carmelo, he just game back this week and performed really well for someone who has been out for so long. Melo is an impressive player, he’s a well known legend who was cast aside by the NBA revolution, but never gave up hope and came back stronger than ever and well enough to be titled player of the week.

A player award wouldn’t mean much to Harden or Doncic. It’s validation that Melo is still in the game and he’s here to stay.

Here’s a clip of Melo’s highlights from the past week
