Written by: The Bermanator

Carmelo Anthony entered the game for the Portland Trail Blazers only a few points away from 26,000 in his career

With a first-quarter free throw on Friday against the Dallas Mavericks, Carmelo Anthony reached 26,000 career points, becoming the 18th player in NBA history to do so.

Melo is one of two active players to have crossed this line alongside LeBron James

Anthony had been out for over a year before signing with the Portland Trail Blazers on November 19th, 2019.

Since his signing with the Blazers, the 3-time Olympic Gold Medalist has been averaging 16.3 points per game, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists while shooting around 44% from the field.

Here’s Melo’s highlight reel from Friday night against the Mavs

LeBron James has now passed Michael Jordan in career field goals

By: The Bermanator

LeBron has made his mark in yet another NBA history book.

Last Friday night, LeBron made a spinning, third-quarter layup that marked the 12,193rd goal of his career.

This put the four-time league MVP into sole possession of fourth place on the all-time career FGM leaderboard.

James now only trails Wilt Chamberlain (12,681), Karl Malone (13,528), and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (15,837) on this leaderboard.

In his 17th year in the NBA, do you think that LeBron will be able to pass or even tie Kareem’s record? We’ll have to keep watching him dominate to find out.

Here’s his highlight reel from that night including when he scored his 12,193rd field goal

James Harden has crossed the 20,000 career point line

By: The Bermanator

This past Saturday in Houston, James Harden became the 45th player in NBA history to score 20,000 career points.

Harden said in an interview after the game in an interview:

“It’s a great accomplishment obviously, but I have a bigger picture and bigger goals but it’s pretty cool.”

The former NBA MVP is the seventh-youngest player to hit the mark. Harden entered the game 10 points away and reached the milestone in a very fitting way, on a step-back 3-pointer midway through the second quarter.

The Rockets’ announcer only yelled out “20,000!” after Harden hit the shot.

Then during the next timeout they played a video to mark the occasion.

The video showed the former MVP making his first points in the NBA while with the Thunder, then making a free throw that gave him 10,000 points and a replay of the 3 that got him to 20,000.

There’s a new Hockey League Coming to town!

Earlier today, Bell Media has announced that 3ICE, a new hockey league which centers around 3 on 3 instead of 5 on 5, has signed TV deals with TSN and CBS Sports.

This new league centers around the principal on 3 on 3 hockey, popularized by the NHL a few seasons ago where they announced that all regular season overtime games will be 3 on 3 instead of 5 on 5.  Some fans enjoy the format so much that they’re calling for getting rid of the shootout altogether, in favour of more 3 on 3 hockey action.

The proposed rules include, no penalties (instead penalty shots are awarded for each infraction), no breaks and no stoppages in play. In addition, instead of the normal twenty-minute, three period NHL game, 3ICE games will only be two, eight minutes halves. The league consists of 8 teams with a single elimination tournament. Teams consist of 1 coach, and 7 players each.

Games will take place in cities across Canada and the U.S. At this time, it is unclear which players or teams will be in on the 3 on 3 action. 3ICE is expected to start in June 2021.

The Brooklyn Nets’ star Point Guard, Kyrie Irving, had been out for almost two months with a shoulder injury. Irving explained in a recent interview during a team practice that he expects to be re-evaluated next week.

“Hopefully I get some game reps in addition to practice probably in the next week or so, it could be less than that but I’ll give myself a week.”

On Thursday, Irving was able to fully participate in practice for the first time since his injury. This included him going through some 5-on-5 scrimmage and several contact drills.

In the most recent NBA All-Star Voting returns, Kyrie is ranked #2 amongst all the Eastern Conference guards with 1,351,997 votes. Irving responded to this on the Brooklyn Nets’ Twitter account by saying:

“I put a lot of work in this league to be up there whether I’m playing or not. If it’s an All-Star Game, then I would vote for myself as well.” – @KyrieIrving

In last night’s game against the Atlanta Hawks, Irving came back to the lineup and scored 21 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished out 3 assists while going 10-11 from the field.

For right now, the Nets are still going to be restricting his minutes a bit until he is 100% clear to return to the lineup.

Here’s a highlight reel of his performance last night against the Hawks

The NBA is removing another Golden State Warriors game from national television.

The NBA decided that the Golden State’s game against the Pelicans on Friday isn’t worth airing worldwide.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise because the Warriors are currently 5 wins to 23 losses and the Pelicans are 6-21 sitting at the bottom as the two worst teams of this season.

Many Warriors fans had hope that they could reach their 6th straight NBA finals, Golden state has too many injured players that deflated that bit of hope.

WIthout Steph curry ( who is out for a left hand surgery),Klay Thomsan who is out to a left knee injury and others, the golden state has no hope of even making the playoffs this season.

Nearly two months into the NBA season, tv ratings on ESPN and TNT have dropped down by 17% and the NBA is claiming these drops are due to player injuries, this may be partially true because 52% of the games this season have had an injured start player, some believe these players are abusing their load management and are sick of it. New Eaton Center Billboard

New Balance billboard sets stage for Kawhi’s return to Toronto by releasing a shiny new billboard in front of eaton center , welcoming former raptors super star Kawhi Leanord.

Last night marked the first time Kawhi has stepped on the scotiabank arena since leading the toronto raptors to their first title in franchise history.

Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment also got in on the festivities, putting up two billboards of its own to welcome back Leonard, one outside Scotiabank Arena and one at BMO Field. (Written by Justice)

Kawhi Leonard is missing his third straight game for the Los Angeles Clippers

Kawhi Leonard is missing his third straight game for the Los Angeles Clippers, again delaying his on-court pairing with new teammate Paul George.

George was in the lineup Monday night against his former team, Oklahoma City, which traded him to the Clippers in the off-season.

Leonard bruised his left knee in a loss at Houston last Wednesday and didn’t play at New Orleans or against Atlanta last week. Los Angeles coach Doc Rivers says it was “very possible” Leonard was going to play Monday.

Rivers has displayed little concern that Leonard will be out long. When he’s been in the lineup, he’s averaging 26.8 points.

George has scored 70 points in just 44 minutes over the past two games since making his season debut after rehabbing from two shoulder operations.

Kawhi has been off for a little while and it seems like he’s in good shape. Kawhi is just the latest example of the NBA trend where stars will sit out a game to rest up and preserve their bodies.

When your body is your meal ticket, athletes should be able to manage their load without having to be called soft.

However, with nationally televised games and fans pay good money to watch them, stars shouldn’t abuse the practice.
